Urgent Message from the Executive Director

Most people have no idea of what goes on behind closed doors in people's homes, or with what tragedies people struggle in their daily lives.

Let me share the stories of some of our clients.

On Friday, Mr. P. walked through our doors. Mr. P. is a 68-year-old Jewish hearing impaired senior. He reads lips and uses a cell phone to text message. Each month, Mr. P. receives $1,441 from Social Security and $89 in food stamps. His rent is $1,300 a month. He owes $976 in back car payments: his car may be repossessed. He is on a waiting list for Section 8 housing. He came into the JFS office, holding a UJA ad from The Jewish Standard instructing those in crisis to contact JFS.
